About

I live and work in the beautiful mountains of Central Virginia.

My husband and I have been married for over 30 years and have three wonderful children and several grandchildren.

I am a certified Health Coach through Functional Medicine Coaching Academy. I have studied nutrition, anatomy and physiology through Full Body Systems which is a part of Functional Nutrition Labs. I hold an undergraduate degree in Therapeutic Recreation. I have worked in various settings assisting clients with exercise, nutrition, leisure awareness, and stress management.

Functional medicine helps many people get unstuck with their medical issues by taking a broader look at their lives as a whole. Functional medicine does not replace traditional medicine, but it looks at problems differently.

I am not a medical doctor, nurse or nutritionist. I do not diagnose medical issues. As a health coach, I come alongside people to help them with their health and wellness pursuits.

Most of my work is in helping people get unstuck in their weight loss goals. Losing weight is one of the most difficult things to do in our society, matched only by the difficulty in keeping the weight off. I help individuals think through what works best for them using the strengths of their personality. Together we will look at what has worked and not worked in the past. We will also explore our relationship with food by becoming more aware of our mindsets and patterns in our food choices.  We often think that weight loss is about will power. Although that is true, there can me more to it than that. It can include such elements as psychological issues, or social patterns.  Having struggled with these things myself, I understand how difficult these issues can be.

My personal interest is in helping people who want to work on physical and mental issues. Having spent years struggling with both depression and adrenal issues, I understand what it’s like to deal with one’s health on multiple levels. For instance, I was surprised at how much my depression lessened when, over 35 years ago, I took sugar out of my diet. A large part of overcoming my depression has been through exercise, good nutrition, maintaining healthy relationships, and pursuing my faith as a Christian.

Many people do not live up to their potential, but with a little encouragement, I believe they can. Helping people move in that direction is one of my greatest joys.
